Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any prominent honors show approaches, one notices an outcry for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and delight the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for board games, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait 35 years.
